How to block outgoing connections and use Password Manager?

Hi everybody,

My problem is that if I block outgonig connections with a firewall (I tried ZoneAlarm and Vista Firewall) I can't open the Password Manager any more. Also there is a warning after startup that there is no connection to the TPM. If I allow outgoing connections everything works fine. I tried to finde a solution for this problem and my first idea was to creat a rule which allows outgoing connections to the Password Manager. But until now I could not find out which .exe file is responsible for the Password Manager. I am searching for a solution since days but until now I couldn't find anything but this thread:

Unfortunatly I don't realy understand if this is the solution for my problem because my english is no so good and it's a little too complicated. If this could be the solution it would be great if someone could explain it to my with more detail.

I have a T60p with Vista Home Premium, CSS 8.00.0311.00 and Windows Firewall or ZoneAlarm

I hope I can find some help here and I wonder if there are others with the same problem.

Your English is just fine, no apologies necessary.

I am very familiar with that thread you referenced in your post, as I am a user of CSS, Password Manager, Fingerprint Software and Comodo Firewall.

The difference for me is that I am using Windows XP Pro SP2, not Vista. And that may complicate my attempt to help you. But I'll try.

By default, Comodo Firewall uses a "training" mode to help it learn about all of the software and executables present on your machine. It also allows the user to designate an application, such as Password Manager, as a Trusted Application, a Trusted Vendor, or both.

If you were to install Comodo Firewall, you would receive a minimum series of popups and prompts for you to allow applications that are loading during startup to access Windows, the Internet, etc. (This would occur on the first bootup immediately after installing the firewall.) During installation, Comodo scans your system for existing programs and "tags" them as Safe, which reduces the number of prompts to which you must respond.

I would give this firewall a try, if you haven't already. Be sure, of course, to disable the Vista Firewall permanently and turn off your anti-virus application when installing Comodo.

I am using v3.0.14.273 of Comodo Firewall. The latest version is 3.0.14.276, which caused problems on my T43, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for this tip! I'm getting familiar with the comodo firewall at the moment and it realy seems to be a great firewall! The Problem with the password manager is allready solved. It's strange that I never heard of comodo until yesterday. This firewall is far better then zonealarm and all the other freeware firewall I know.

It's strange that I never heard of comodo until yesterday. This firewall is far better then zonealarm and all the other freeware firewall I know.

Cool...great news.

To be sure, Comodo has its critics, but the new version 3.0 offers HIPS (Host Intrusion Protection System) that will block dangerous processes from loading on your machine. There are still some bugs to be worked out, which is evident from a number of posts on the user forum.

But, you sure can't beat the price.

I installed version 3.0.14.276 and until now I had no problems. But I have never realy worked with my new notebook. I just made the setup and installed a few applications. Maybe there are some problems I havn't noticed now....

Anyway, since you had Zonealarm installed, are you sure it was completely UNinstalled? They have this persistent pest, called TrueVector Service, which might still be on your laptop and cause all sorts of havoc!

Zone Alarm and Symantec/Norton products are notorious for leaving remnants behind that are extremely difficult to remove.

If there is a special removal tool available from those vendors, run it after performing a normal uninstallation via Control Panel > Add/Remove Software.

I checked if there is still someting left from Zonelabs on my ThinkPad and I found something. It's a registry entry with the name Legacy_vsdatant. I tried to delete it but ist's not possible because I don't have the permission. So I tried to give me the permisson. But I always get the message that it was not possible to save the chanche of the registry. Acces denied.
Is it important to delete this entry?

Mostly learned it from reading the Fasnacht Zeedeli (Raedaebaeng) and reading the (1975/76) daily dialect articles in the BaslerStab. And of course dating a huebsches Maiteli or two (or three, four, whatever).
I agree with whomever said, that nothing beats pillow-talk to learn a foreign language.

You can't delete any of those Legacy entries, and they are not important anyway.
Would you like me to try and translate (uf Hochduetsch) that earlier Comodo post?

You might be able to delete it, running under Safe Mode.

But, as RBS points out, "legacy" keys rarely cause any problems.

Gee, maybe I need to dust off my scientific and technical French that I haven't used in 30 years, LOL.

Thanks a lot for the help I found here. At the moment everythink works fine. The only problem I still have is Windows Vista itself.
Win 2k on my old desktop with an 1ghz cpu and 256 Ram is faster. And Vista also needs a lot of diskspace. I think XP is the better choice for the T60p.....

Loads of people downgrade to XP. You can get a downgrade-set from Lenovo (in USA $45.-), don't know European prices.
