15-inch Core 2 Duo ThinkPad T60p | Ivy-Bridge (Late-2012) Mac mini w/ quad Core i7-3615QM 2.3GHz, 16GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM, 240GB+180GB Intel 520 Series SATA III SSD's, 5x3TB Drobo 5D
Not in 2.5 , though I just looked at an external 3.5, 250 gig, 7200rpm drive, USB with power brick for $69.00 @ComputerGeeks. Just consider an external, portable drive.
refurbed A30, 265243U,, bios 1.12 5/16/02,, 1.13GHZ,, 768MB,, IBM recovery disk w/XPpro 2002 5.1,, HD 60GB,7200rpm, cdRW/DVD,, dock 3631,,
Higher rpm means lower latency. Meaning a 10k rpm drive, with half the latency of a normal drive, would be still be faster in a certain significant way, even in a usb case.STC wrote:in an external case the speed of the hd doesnt matter as the usb connection is the limiting factor. you could put a 10000 rpm raptor in an usb case and it wouldnt be faster as a 5400 rpm drive.

I am using a 3.5" HDD installed in an eSATA enclosure, which is connected to the eSATA PCMCIA card that I installed on my T61p. Both the raw transfer rate and the access time are much better than the internal 2.5" HDD.
Also, if you want to have 2 eSATA HDD connected to the laptop, you may want to look at those eSATA Expresscard(if your machine supports it), which has a much higher bandwidth to handle two HDD simultaneously.
