cannot use recovery partition on T41 after installing Ubuntu

#1 Post by ldkha1979 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:36 am

hi all,
I have a T41. I tried to install Ubuntu and after I wanted to use recovery partition to go back to WinXP. I've read in some forums that I need to change the partition Id from 0x12 to 0x0b. But after changing, I still cannot use the recovery partition. So I decided to install a new WinXP on my HDD. After that, I found that the recovery partition can be seen from Windows (not hidden as normal), and I still cannot use it to recover my laptop. Anyone can help me to fix it so that I can recover my laptop as before? Many thks!

Not sure exactly what precautions you took, but from the cover of the Ubuntu CD I have:

"The default installation will erase all existing software and data from your computer. If this is not what you want, follow the instructions carefully during the intsallation."

I haven't installed Ubuntu yet, so I can't help more than that.

Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette.

You'll need a floppy disk drive. The package is coded for to be used with a FDD and I don't know how to make it work through another device like bootable CD or USB, this is the question I receive in pm almost everytime after mentioning it so I thought it would be good to admit before someone asks it, again.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
