is there a way to clean or fix a key board on my ibm think 1836 keys are acting up and some are not working

Sounds like you have an R51.
Go to the Lenovo Support page, enter your Product number (i.e. 1836-XXX) from the bottom of your laptop.
On the next page, click on User guides and manuals and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
In there you can read (illustrated) how to take your keyboard out.
Clean that with a can of compressed air.
Put it back and try it again.
If still problems, replace it (relatively cheap on Ebay).
