Get confuse with IBM Thinkpad wireless MPCI card
Get confuse with IBM Thinkpad wireless MPCI card
Hi,
I'm quite familiar with thinkpad models (after read lots of post here and do some research from google) but someone just make me confused.
If thats someone is just an individual, maybe I don't get confuse but this someone is an authorized IBM Reseller. So I think its better to ask the expert here to clear me out.
My question is, IF in the specification list its say IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless, normally what kind of chipset will you get?
Is it Intel / Atheros / Cisco or its can be anything?
Can someone tell me please.
Thank you.

Thank you for the super quick reply. I also think the same thing but this person thats represent this authorized IBM Reseller told me that IBM can be anything so in your case its Intel.ryengineer wrote:Atheros.
He also tell me that this Intel wireless card support type G. Of course its does because its an Intel 2200B/G. All I want is that the IBM (Atheros chipset) a/b/g wireless card.
I asking for a replacement and still waiting for a reply.
OK. Actually I bought an IBM Thinkpad T42p from ThinkPadWorld. I really satisfied with everything, the laptop condition really near new, fast delivery even though its an International shipping except this wifi card because the specification list was IBM 802.11a/b/g (which is Atheros chipset) but what I get is Intel 2200B/G wifi card.
Lets say they don't want to replace it. Is there anything that I can do about it?

If they don't want to replace it, you could ask for a refund of the price-difference between the 2 cards. Then buy the card you want, and (hopefully) sell the old card.
It being such an expensive shipping distance, it's not worth it to return the whole laptop.
Question: do you need the 802.11A or do you rather want the Atheros chip for perhaps Super-G? Without a corresponding Super-G router or WAP it's not going to do you any good.
The Intel 2200B/G performs flawless otherwise.

Actually I don't need the A but I need the Atheros chipset. I know the Intel 2200BG is good enough but I bought it because of the Atheros either wise I will look for other models.
Their should know their models. Don't simply put something in the spec list.
To me when they call them self an authorized IBM dealer, they should know everything.
well that it could have been the Intel 2915 ABG card also but they only gave you the 2200BG so either get the Atheros one or the Intel one. The Atheros one is good but it does suck some battery
Guess it doesn't matter much tho because the P version sucks some battery too

Thanks for your explanation. Actually I don't have an issue using Intel 2200b/g but ThinkPadWorld should be more sensitive with what their advertised or don't claim yourself an authorized IBM reseller. About the battery, I think its not really a big problem because I don't travel much and for solution, maybe I can get an extra battery.SHoTTa35 wrote:well that it could have been the Intel 2915 ABG card also but they only gave you the 2200BG so either get the Atheros one or the Intel one. Thanks. There is still no respond from them. So I guest, I have to use the 2200b/g. About the feedback, I'm still thinking. For now, I think overall services is good.bill bolton wrote: There appear to be issues with using at least some Atheros based cards and Bluetooth concurrently.
I get back to you guys if I have anything new from them.
Thank you all for your support. This forum really a great place to share and learn out interest and knowledge.

If you ask me then I would advise not to deal with ThinkpadWorld, no personal ties or anything, I have never even dealt with them but this is the impression I've developed from experiences stated by others on this forum. This is my opinion.zitoo wrote:OK. Actually I bought an IBM Thinkpad T42p from ThinkPadWorld.....snip
A good thread to start with:

I know there is some good and bad impression about ThinkPadWorld but to me I don't have much choice since here in Malaysia its really hard to get a good used high end ThinkPad.
If I want to buy a second laptop, I still consider ThinkPadWorld as one of my source but I'll make sure the list is same with the spec.
Thank you for the link.
