Hello to all of you,

I am working with a ThinPad T61 having WinXP as the operating system. For some time now I am trying without success to find a solution to the following problem:

What has to be done to protect the starting of a basically non password protected application (mail program like thunderbird, chatclient like miranda and so on) through the password manager - meaning to gain access to these programs only by means like fingerprint and/or entering a corresponding password?

Within the password manager program (at adavanced settings) there is quoted, that windows appilcations can be protected as well next to websites. How has this got to be done???

Would be great if somebody is around here to give me some hint on that ....

The procedure is fairly simple.

Within the "Advanced" tab of Password Manager's Preferences, you click on "Application (EXE files only)", then using the navigation (Browse) button on the right, locate the specific executable that launches the program you wish to protect.

When the path to that executable appears in the text box, click the "Restrict" button, and the application will be added to the box below. Subsequently, by selecting a restricted application and clicking the "Remove" button, you can delete that program from the list of restricted applications.

thank you for your message. I was looking at these settings, but the prodecure you described does not apply to what I am looking for - which is getting basically nonprotected applications started only via password manager (fingerprint/password protection).

To my understanding your settings are obviously for basically password protected applications (or websites) to set restrictions regarding alternatively NOT to enter a password for theses applications then ....

On the other hand there is also a "tool for entering and transferring ..." , but I have tried this one already uncountable times without finding a solution. Where exactly do I have to drop that crosshairs symbol in the opened application then???

Hopefully somebody can give me some clue on that.

Konsul, I went back to review your post again a few days ago, and I am a little confused.

Is your objective to launch a given application simply by using a fingerprint swipe? In other words, without any kind of prompt whatsovever, I could launch Outlook Express, for example, simply by swiping my finger?

If so, I don't think that's possible. The fingerprint reader would somehow have to be configured so that it would respond only by launching Outlook Express when your finger is swiped. Even if that could be done, it would eliminate the use of the fingerprint reader for other purposes, such as Windows logon and entering protected Web sites.

I think the instructions are fairly clear for using Password Manager for securing and launching protected applications.

Perhaps you can clarify further exactly what you are trying to do. I'm still somewhat confused.

thank you for your message. Well of course its clear to me, not being able to open an application just by swiping the finger across the sensor.

I just want to start an application by double clicking onto its dektop icon and then this fingerprint window should open and asking for a fingerprint swipe - thus protecting this application to be opened without fingerprint. These applications could be: mail program, chatprogram like miranda, accounting program, any other program which basically are started without any password protection. That means in return then, that through the password manager I have to set some username and password then.

OK, I think this clarifies it for me.

If you have not followed my previous instructions, please try them out and see if the end result is what you desire in terms of protecting an application and enabling the ability to click on its desktop icon and then swiping your finger to open it.

I have also encountered problems with the "text transfer" window and cursor tool. Sometimes it works, other times it does not. My advice is to simply enter the user name and password information manually for each program you wish to protect.

Post back and let us know if you've succeeded.

I too am trying to do something similar, if not the same.
I would like to have my computer require my fingerprint be swiped when I launch Quicken, so that only I can look at my financial data, but I can allow others to use my computer for web, etc.
I followed your directions, I think:
Start>TVT>Client Security Solution:
Manage Logon Passwords>Set Preferences>Set Preferences:
Restricted Tab>Application (EXE files only) Radio Button
Browse to qw.exe>Open>Restrict

OK out, close everything, restart.
I can still launch Quicken from the start menu, or directly by double-clicking the qw.exe. Also, Quicken does allow you to password-protect the data file, but CSS does not recognize the password box, and offer to save it for you.

Any guesses at what I'm doing wrong?

P.S. I'm running XP pro, with CSS v7

It sounds like you've configured everything properly. But I don't use Quicken, so I cannot test it or reproduce the behavior you described.

You may want to upgrade to CSS 8.10.0006.00, Fingerprint Software 5.6.2 and Password Manager 3.00.0006.00 to see if that resolves your issue.
