Software for USB-to-USB network bridge cables?

I have two USB-to-USB network bridge cables, one quite old, it would be nice if I could get them to work with two XP laptops. Anyone familiar with these? Know who might have current drivers that work with XP?

Net-LinQ software with a BAFO USB-to-USB network bridge cable. This worked for me on my older laptops. The software is copyright 2001 so it's old, and the company appears to have gone belly-up. With two XP laptops it does not recognize the connection between them or find the remote computer.

Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows Vista, I got it for $10 with the Dell I bought for my mom and returned. There's conflicting information on whether or not it will do anything but transfer files one-way from an XP PC to a Vista PC, and whether or not it will work with two XP PCs. It recognized the connection and found the remote PC when I installed the software on two XP laptops, but wouldn't transfer files.

Any help?

I don't know whther this information is helpful or not but last time I had occasion to use one of those "USB network" connection cables between a ThinkPad and a Desktop PC, both running Windows XP Sp2.... it was autodetected at both ends by XP.

The desktop was a locked down corporate SOE environment on which I had no admin level access (and so couldn't install any drivers on it anyway), so I was quite surprised and pleased!

IIRC, the cable did come with some drivers but I think they were intended for Win 98. I may have the disk somewhere, so if I can find it I will see what was on it.

The cable was sort of "finest kind" type from Asia rather than a name brand product.

XP autodetects the cables but asks for hardware drivers. Once upon a very long time ago, LapLink could be installed on one machine, connected via cable to a second machine, and there was no need to do anything else. Alas for the "good ol' days!" Of course those were also the days of DOS and 20-pound "portable" PCs. *g*

I found the driver CD for the cable I have.... PM me and we can discuss what might be useful for you, and how to transfer info/drivers.

Cheers,

Thanks, Bill. I found some drivers online, haven't tried to install them yet, for "Hi-Speed USB Datalink & Network Cable V 2.0 (Ali)" Is that what you have? Always wary of using any software I find online through a websearch, I need to backup my system before installing, set a restore point, etc.

PM in your box shortly.
