72W Power supply died

Well, I was in class today (actually in the programming lab). We were using linux on our nice ThinkCenters and because the IT department did some cleaning of the systems over winter break, I could not open a stinking word document since the necessary files were deleted from the systems. Well I had my thinkpad plugged in since I had been using it all day and drained the battery and needed it copy the code I needed for my lab assignment. All of a sudden, I head the power beep and what do you know, the thinkpad is running on battery power. I thought the outlet I used just went bad, so I plugged it in another outlet, nada. I get home and plug the thinkpad into my desk setup where I have a second power supply and the battery charges.
What do you think would of caused the power supply to go bad? It is the 72W FRU 02k6677 "Dog Bone" power supply. All comments are welcomed.

Old age? Power supply problems could be due to a number of issues:
- blown fuse
- bad capacitor; generally you can hear a pop when they go
- corrosion on the circuit board causing a short and leading to the fuse to some other part to blow up
- broken connection; AC power to the board or DC output cable
Best thing to do is go out and get another one for $10-$15. Whatever you do,
don't open it up and tinker with it

Well, at least I have a spare power supply to use (newer version). If worse comes to worse, I'll just get another. In the mean time, I can cut off the wires and have paper weight (It will go nicely with my AOL coaster
)

The ThinkCenters dual boot linux and Windows XP. Some labs require linux to complete them.

I am sorry to hear that your adapter went bust. The newer ones for the T6X/R6x/X6X series (with the grey end) will not fit the older thinkpads. Make sure that you get the right one for your thinkpad ... I'd give you one if I had a spare.
