Does dropping my laptop void my warranty?

#1 Post by kulivontot » Sat Feb 09, 2008 9:31 pm

I have had a problem with the GPU on my T60 overheating for a while now, and it's starting to get almost uncomfortable to use on my lap for an extended period of time. I want to send it back in to lenovo to have the GPU replaced under warranty, but I dropped the laptop about a month ago and chipped the plastic in the corner of the laptop. It works perfectly fine, it's purely cosmetic damage, but is that enough for lenovo to justify not repairing the machine? Should I try and replace the plastic casing before I send it in?

No dropping your thinkpad doesn't void your warranty but don't be surprised if IBM refuses to replace the plastic housing for you, under thinkpad protection service this sort of damage is covered.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
