I suspect the serviceability of a 40 GB Hitachi Travelstar HD model IC25N040ATCS05-0. I attached this HD to my T42 using a usb 2.5" HD adaptor.
control panel>Performance and Maintenance > administrative tools > computer Management > Disk Management > recognized the usb 2.5" HD attached drive as Disk 1 drive E with a single partition showing Healthy (Active)
Windows File explorer sees the drive and its contents.
Ran PC-Doctor > storage > Hard Drive test >
Random Seek Test : fail
Funnel Seek Test : Pass
Surface Scan Test (2) : fail
Surface Scan Test (3) : pass
Are these PC-Doctor Hard Drive test results significant? and How so?
Should I perform a HD fitness test?
The HD cloning How to suggests to use the Hitachi Drive fitness test. The Hitachi site states that this program "Does not support external USB or Firewire attached drives" Any ideas on how perform a HD fitness test on a usb HD adaptor attached HD?
