Compatible with Windows Vista and Window XP.
After watching the Youtube video for a Mac program (iAlertU), I thought to myself and said there have to be something similar out there for the Lenovo IBM Thinkpads. The iAlertU program uses the hard drive sensor, which the Thinkpads already has, to activate the alarm. I saw this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff0yKeMDyZ0) on Youtube and went to the website in the description. To my surprised, it was in Polish and I did not understand anything. I just saw 2 links that the creator of this program put and downloaded the first one. The second one is really just the source codes of the program.
So after tinkering around trying to get the program to work, I got it to work. Here are the instructions.
Installation: "There really isn't any!"
1. Make sure that your Hard drive Active Protection System is activated!!
2. Put the ThinkAlarm on your desktop.
3. 3. Make a folder "Temp" in your C: drive. Put the included .WAV file in the Temp fold. You can put whatever .WAV file you like, just make sure to rename it to alarm. I got this .WAV file from iAlertU and convert it from AIFF to WAV.
4. Don't worry about setting your volume. The program will use the loudest setting from Windows. Once deactivated, your volume should be back to its previous state.
NOTE: Make sure to not set the Lid Close to go on Stand By. But once the notebook is turn back on, the alarm will resume! Hopefully the creator will have a newer version that will lock the Thinkpad from shutting down, etc.
Arming your Thinkpad time!
1. Open ThinkAlarm. It should automatically minimize into your system tray. You can set up the volume to maximum in the program if you like by double clicking it.
2. Press "Window Key" and "L" to lock Windows.
3. Whenever someone moves your laptop, the alarm will activate itself and loop over and over and over and over again. Don't worry about setting your volume. The program will use the loudest setting from Windows. Once deactivated, your volume should be back to its previous state.
4. To deactivate it, just log in or swipe your finger on the FingerPrint Reader.
Have Fun and Protect those Thinkpads!
