Hello,
This is for any member facing a problem in accessing the 'Rescue & Recover Workspace' while booting to restore your notebook to the factory installed state.
This post specifically relates to "Rescue and Recover 3", though it may help for other versions too.
The Rescue & Recovery Workspace would ask you for a password/ passphrase to logon to the workspace area, when you never ever had setup a password. It may even ask you to login with your windows password (which may not exist in the 1st place)
I had faced a similar problem, had to pay $30 to Lenovo to get the solution. It's a flaw in their program for which we have to opt for phone support, which costs a bomb. Such cheats!!
Anyways, here it goes..
If you try logon to the "Rescue and Recovery Workspace" & it asks you for a password.
Exit it, Start windows
Go to Run,
type 'cmd'
In the command prompt type
pe_setupmasterpwde.exe -setmode 0
Press enter.
The rescue and recovery space will never ask you for a password. You infact cannot have a password, such is the flaw in the program. I had to pay $30/- for this stupidity.
(For other versions, in the command prompt, you can replace the 'pe_setupmasterpwde.exe' part of the command with the actual filename existing on your system. You can find this filename in c:\Program Files\IBM Thinkvantage\Client Security Solution)
Let me know if it helped.
