Hi!

I removed the hard drive from my "new" t22 and powered on. The noise got much more quiet.

It seems that the hard drive makes a noise that is like a humming fan. I did run the drive fitness test with no problems.

I have read from the groups that djsa-220 (travelstar 20gn) is sometimes noisy. Anyone else with the same problem ?

Best,
hhhh

the DJSA was well known to be noisy..
as well as other models of travelstar at that time..

live with it or get a newer drive is about all you can do..

note that SOME noise is normal..
scraping, screeching or constant seeking is NOT normal..

I guess there no way of telling if the drive is within the specs ? Defrag, scandisk and drive fitness came out all right.

Hmm.. Maybe perhaps sending a sound file to manufacturer :D

not an issue in the workshop or enviroments where some backround noise goes on but at 3am in the morning it's fairly audible
compared to say samsung,toshiba drives.

I recently acquired an X20 with same drive model and yes, the drive does a very good impersonation of a sawmill. However, it has been working flawlessly for previous owner and my initial tests didn't see anything wrong with it either so I guess it's just the way it is built. Perhaps the lube has worn off the bearings or something.

I'm planning to replace the drive and keep that it for spare, just in case. Any model from current crop of harddrives would be about tenfold noise level improvement for me.
