how much RAM?

#1 Post by charlienyc » Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:23 am

hi. i'm expecting a new R61 any day now, and want to upgrade the RAM. i had it shipped with 1GB, but initially thought i'd upgrade it with to 2 using a pair of new 1GB chips. RAM is getting so cheap i'm now thinking about getting a pair of 2GB chips. i have some reluctance going to 4GB, as i understand some motherboard & chipset combinations don't operate well with that amount of memory.

for example, at work, we ordered a new desktop machine w/ 4GB RAM and had to wait for Intel to provide a proprietary BIOS upgrade to address the last GB (was perfect up to 3GB). i've heard similar stories. how much RAM are you running in your newer ThinkPad, and how is it running?

cheers,

I don't think the R61 will have a problem, since it's the latest chipset. The problem chipset was used in the R60.

And only one 2gb stick will work fine regardless, the older models had the problem when you put two 2gb sticks.
