t30 trackpoint question

#1 Post by dewnutt t-30 » Fri Apr 04, 2008 8:52 pm

t30 2366 PU6, XP pro SP3, 2 gigs ram 40 gig Hitachi Drive.

This has been an issue since I got he unit, I did do a light search of the site here nad cam up with little, so here goes.

The Trackpoint (little red dot) device, seems to have a mind of its own, it likes to wander to the upper left of the screen. I have changed out the red rubber(ish) button. The issue has been there even with a reload of windows. ( no I didn't reload because of that, darned spam, n stuff). All the keys around the button are firm, the button itself has no slop, and is not touching any of the keys. Is there a driver, or something that I may be missing here. I like having the convenience of having the thing right there. but if its something that I can replace, I would be more than willing to do so.

Any ideas or help would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

Is it constant or every once in awhile? If it is every once in awhile it is normal because the trackpoint calibrates itself that way. If it is constant try the latest trackpoint driver. If that doesn't fix it replace the keyboard.

Thanks I knew someone here would be able to answer my question. As I can't answer if its constant, as I use a USB mouse when the laptop is on my desk, but I do use the track point almost exclusively when I travel. I will pay close attention over the next few days.

If you're new to thinkpads (which btw I sense from your post) then I suggest you to take a look at the following documents:

How to use the TrackPoint center button - ThinkPad.

IBM Watson Research Lab - Notes on TrackPoint Drift.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thanks for the links. Even though I have been an IBM laptop user for quite a long time. Any information is always welcome.
