I have R52 and I believe it used 72 w adapter.
I wonder whether can I use 56 w adapter for this unit?
Will the machine have any problem running 56 w instead of 72 w?
Thanks,
Paul

You can for a short while, but it is not advisable, as it will soon overheat.

Thanks for your response. You mean the adapter will get overheated, not the laptop?

It will start with the adapter first, then your battery, because it does not receive enough 'juice'.

Got it, and how about if I use adapter 72 w with old lappy i.e. X2x, T2x.. what's the benefit? coz' I see lots of people in this forum do that.
Thanks,

That's perfectly OK. The laptop will only 'take' what it needs.
As long as there is enough power/juice available, there's no problem.
The other way around causes problems.
Warning: newer TPs need a 90W adapter with 20V, they won't work with a 72W/16V adapter!
