Hi guys,

Had a question about the backup/recovery software. As we speak I am reinstalling my machine and doing the gabillion updates. Does the backup/recovery software have some sort of feature where, once I have all my apps and updates installed I can take a "snapshot" and then when I reinstall again I can save some time skipping at least some of the updates? Kinda like norton ghost?

Thanks, Mark

Hello, since you did not state which operating system you are running I am not sure what you mean about the "back/recovery software". Are you talking about the one that comes on many Vista versions, or what?

I use Acronis regularly to make images (backups of everything) of my machines. It's about 40 bucks, but worth a million.

I have no experience with Ghost, but it is similar to Acronis.

Well in that case, get a 3rd party imaging program. The native XP backup is awful Microsoft threw in an old NT backup program on XP and never updated it. Don't waste your time with it.

Spend a few dollars and save yourself hours and hours of hassle.

Would you reccomend using Arcanis? I tried using Norton ghost 12 and it didn't like working off of my machine ... I used to use norton 9 which was great easy...

I have used Acronis for years and it has been very satisfactory.
