I am trying to find the correct cpu for my Thinkpad R61i upgrade.
Ref: wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_core ... ry_modules
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_In ... re_2_Duo_2

The laptop came with T5250/1.50 GHz (2 MB L2, 667 MHz FSB, no VT)

I guess my question would be: how do I find out which socket my R61i uses? If it's socket M can I use CPUs for socket P on it?

The type and model of my R61i is 8932-A11, which I couldn't find the exact match in tabook and lenovo website

If your CPU is a T5250 - according to your 2nd link (List of Intel Core 2 microprocessors), it is a socket "P" CPU. Unfortunately Socket "M" & Socket "P" are not pin for pin compatible.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_p
It seems Socket P is part of Santa Rosa platform. I guess I can upgrade my cpu to Penryn (T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500) and upgrade my memory to DDR2-800(400Mhz) so my cpu can run at full speed. (ref. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM )

Thanks for the opinion!
