T42 XP hard drive in a TP 600?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, so mods feel free to move it if necessary. Here goes:

I've got a T42 with XP Pro on the 40 gig HD. The T42 will be undergoing repairs for the 4th time on Monday (this time it's the backlight). The warranty runs out on June 5th of this year.

I have (in fact am typing on) a very reliable TP600 - everything works and always has.

My questions - can I take the HD from the T42 and use it in my 600? Will XP Pro have the drivers it needs to make everything work? And will the COA from the T42 be valid on the 600?

If I can do this, then the T42 is history as it has been more headache and downtime than I want to deal with.

Thanks in advance.

the COA is not the problem, the HD will work but I'm pretty sure you'll get the BSOD. You could get an external usb HD enclosure to get your files from the t42 drive to your 600.

I've already have a USB HD controller, so getting the data files is not a problem. What I'm wanting to do is use the XP HD on my 600 without having to start all over. All the programs I use for my writing are on that HD and I really don't want to lose them or have to reinstall, as some are no longer available.

I guess I'm just frustrated by all the down time on the T42, so much so, that I'm more than willing to go backward to get something stable and reliable.

Some of my thinkpads in the past have had the ability to swap HD's with no problem. But the difference between the 600 and t42 is a few years. You can try it, there would not be any harm done. It's a fairly easy swap.
