Assume the battery in question is almost a year old and has an average number of charge cycles.
Does anyone have a solid answer as to when IBM / Lenovo will consider a battery defective? In other words, if my battery only charges to 90% is it defective and will be replaced or is the magic number around 75%?
Also, in the battery health window, there is a status indicator of green, yellow, and red. What is measured here? Battery capacity? Also, what are the ranges covered for each color? Is red 0 – 60% capacity, yellow 60 – 80% capacity, and green 80 – 100% capacity/

When is a battery considered defective?
your battery is a consumable item which will eventually need to be replaced. Lenovo doesn't cover worn batteries because that's how they are designed.
They will replace the battery if it suddenly stopped charging or will charge but wont power the laptop or stuff like that. Nothing that normally happens in the life of a laptop will be covered however.

Funny that you ask, I was going to post my results on a lot of batteries that I received yesterday just for information.
I bought a lot of 10 batteries and measured them. Unfortunately 3 I can't measure because I don't have the machine they belong to. If you would like to have them cheap, I will put them up in the marketplace.
Battery #3748 capacity is 38.88wh, full charge capacity now 33.66wh, and 51 cycles. So 87%
Battery #0553 capacity is 43.20wh, full charge capacity now 35.54wh, and 87 cycles. So 82%
Battery #5555 capacity is 36.00wh, full charge capacity now 18.75wh, and 137 cycles. So 52%.
Battery #0294 capacity is 43.30wh, full charge capacity now 21.35wh, and 306 cycles. So 49%.
Battery #0553 capacity is 40.00wh, full charge capacity now 21.35wh, and 67 cycles. So 51%.
Battery #1135 capacity is 43.20wh, full charge capacity now 34.95wh, and 58 cycles. So 81%.
Battery #6666 capacity is 47.52wh, full charge capacity now 22.84wh, and 48 cycles. So 48%.
From my information after 300 cycles, I would guess that your battery is half spent.The average loss of .190wh per cycle. This batch of batteries I just received. I don't know the type of usage prior to me obtaining them or if I try to condition them (drain completely and charging overnight) if they will improve. This is what I will try and so for the next couple of days.
I'm no electrical engineer so please give your advice, criticism, or suggestions.
