IBM LOGO

#1 Post by CeeDee » Thu May 29, 2008 1:24 am

Could someone please tell me when Lenovo stopped putting the IBM logo on their laptops. Also what was the last model in each class of machine.

Early 2008.

Basically the last refresh of all available *61 series (T, X, and R) used to come with IBM logo before 2008. Before that some models bought through different channels also came without IBM logo but there wasn't any consistency at that moment which only has started beginning this year.

Some insight from lenovo blogs:

Same Product, Different Stickers.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thank you for the info, it was both helpfull and interesting.
I am going to purchase my "final" Thinkpad in the fall and as it will be new, I will have to get used to the new logo. However I will not purchase "new" if I can't get XP on it, as I can't stand Vista.

currently vista-equipped configurations on lenovo's site offer your choice of recovery media: vista or XP.   so, it might have to ship with vista on it but you'll be able to put XP on it with no problem.   otherwise, XP is getting less and less expensive all the time and you can always buy it separately if the XP recovery media option disappears.

either way, i wouldn't pass on a thinkpad just because of the OS.   OSes come and go but the hardware lasts a long time. ;)

I was under the impression that recovery disks only worked with the same OS as was originaly installed.
If it's as you say then I will get my T61 in the fall. Thanks for your help.

(snippage)

FWIW -- There are several sellers on Ebay who make replacement IBM-type logos available. That's how I managed to replace the stickers on my T61 (that Lenovo sticker is Just Plain Hideous!)

Cheap, too... I think I paid a total of $7 or so, including shipping, for a pair of the things.

Now I'm just waiting for someone to come up with a replacement sticker for the LEDs at the bottom of the screen housing, one that says 'IBM' instead of Lenovo.

Yes, I know... Silly cosmetic stuff, but hey... my equipment, my rules!

Oh, its way beyond silly. Hmm, cough. can you post a link? :D

My X61s received early this year had the IBM logo next to the keyboard and the Lenovo logo under the dispay.

Heh... Sounds like mine looks now.

Anyway... This is a link which should bring up the desired search results. Take your pick of sellers.

Happy hunting.
