Atheros a/b/g and wireless LED strange behaviour

#1 Post by Marin85 » Tue Jun 17, 2008 10:03 am

Hi,

I´ve recently upgraded my wireless from Intel Pro 3945 a/b/g to a ThinkPad Atheros a/b/g (part No 40Y7026) and the first thing I noticed after upgrading was the wireless LED behaviour: it seemed very unusual to me, when browsing or downloading the wireless LED blinks in very short intervalls and often in a very irregular manner like blinking that tries to overlap itself. With my Intel card the wireless LED had pretty equal blinking intervalls and definitely not in such a "psychopathical" manner like with the Atheros. I tested the wireless with PC-Doctor, it didn´t report any problems. I have no problems with downloading speeds, the connection strenght seems to be pretty constant even in bigger distancies, which was not the case with the Intel´s one. However, when browsing with Firefox, the responding time when clicking a link or browsing forums have increased to an extent that I have to click multiple times till I get through :? What is even more weird, the responding times of IE 7 x64 have decreased compared to those with the Intel card and it makes really fun to browse now with IE 7 64bit :D
Back to the wireless LED: is that behaviour typical for Atheros cards or maybe is this a symptom for a hardware problem?

Thanks in advance!

Marin

As for the blinking of wireless indicator LEDs, I see pretty much the same behaviour with both my 2200 b/g and my Atheros a/b/g. I thought it was normal. :? But wireless LEDs seem to have a mind of their own (as indicated by the number of times it comes up on the forum . . . ) I don't think it's anything to worry about.

My Firefox response time, however, it not normal. On two machines (T61 and T42) it seems fine--only a few milllisecond delay--but on another (T42), it is ridiculously long--five seconds or more. All are running 2.0.0.14. It is not processor related, i.e., Firefox can be the only thing running and still take forever to load a page. I have googled about it, but it seemed that I was the only one with the problem (i.e., I didn't find anything about the issue). I don't know my way around about:config well enough to begin to look for a cause, but a solution would be nice!

Thanks for your reply! Now I can sleep well again :D

Cheers

EDIT: A solution to the Firefox response times issue would be indeed nice :P
