Rescue and Recovery network problem

hi guys,
I cannot make any backup/restore to "network" as a backup location, once I updated my thinkpad with the latests lenovo/microsoft patches.
any valid network location I type I am returned with the error message "mapping the network drive was unsuccessful. Please verify ....".
on the other hand if I type the same network path (and user/pass) in Windows Explorer, everything works fine. So it must be any kind of switch/parameter which refuses connection or makes it impossible. I was surfing over internet for a while, but could not find any useful suggestion. all I know by now is application "mapdrv.exe" which sits in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\MND" directory is lanuched during this process. unfortunately it did not help. launching it separately brings me the same error screen. also I went through Windows Register File, but could not find any suspicious item.
some steps I have already done:
- Norton and Windows firewalls are disabled
- I uninstalled and reinstalled RnR
operating system: Vista 32 ultimate, thinkpad model 7764-CTO
has anybody come across that issue ? any suggestions are more than welcome
