Thinking of setting up Resoldering Facility in UK

#1 Post by poshgeordie » Thu Jun 19, 2008 4:29 pm

Hi

I'm not sure where to post this or even if it's appropriate, so moderators please feel free to move or delete.

I've recently 'discovered' Thinkpads, and bought a few from Ebay. With the assistance of the forums I have managed to repair most of them.

I've just been asked by someone elsewhere in the UK to look into the possibility of resoldering a quantity of graphics chips on faulty T4x boards.
I've read up on this in the forums, and would be confident in using the tried and tested hot air gun method.
However due to the largish quantity of boards, I'm thinking of buying a proper reworking station and PCB Infrared preheater unit. This should speed up the process and ensure much greater reliability and consistency of results.

I'm still looking into into the feasibility of doing this, and to maybe offer this service at a price (to be decided but would be good value!) to fellow Thinkpad users within UK / Europe.

Would any of you potentially be interested in this?

My background is in IT based electronics.

Many thanks for your interest and comments.

Nick

Contact user jamiphar on this forum. He has such a machine and might perhaps be willing to give you advice.
