WiFi card with split personality - Atheros or Intel?

I was going to buy an Atheros card and I have been offered one that came from T61.

On the sticker, it says:
Atheros AR5BXB6 (made by Anatel).

4104A - AR5BXB6
EC NO: G41598 FRU P/N 39T5578 year month: 707

Now, I would assume it is the Atheros card that so many people are replacing their Intels with and I almost bought it.

However, then the seller said windows was reporting it as Intel 3945ABG...

Does anyone know what’s chip is it after all?

If it's part number 39T5578, it is an Atheros 802.11 a/b/g Mini-Pci Express wireless card. Your seller is mistaken.

Is it possible that windows would report it as Intel even though it's an Atheros?

No :)

So you are sure IBM never suplied different chips with this part number and I can safely assume seller's mistake?
I just want to be double-sure cause I'm about to seal the deal.

I checked the thinkWiki and what I found was a bit confusing.

According to this, the Part Number for Atheros should be 40Y7026.

40Y7026 is the part number associated with FRU 39T5578. They are one in the same.

On intel cards there is an additional antenna connection socket in the middle.

No, that's just on the 802.11n cards. Same as Atheros.
