Fellow Thinkers and Padders,
I've seen screenshots of a driver application for wireless cards used in the ThinkPads. When doing a site survey, it shows a neat graphic of curvy lines (standing for radio waves, probably), and the available access points are scattered among these lines relative to how strong their signal is (translation: what their relative distance to the ThinkPad is).
Questions: Is this software specific to the Access Connections package?
If not, what package is it, and will it work with Intel Pro series wireless cards? Or does it only talk to the IBM/Atheros devices?
Thanks.
Wireless card software - Intel 3950

Yes, it's part of AC, and it apears when you search for acces points, and gives you icons (AP or PC) and signal strenght. It works with Intel3954abg card on ThinkPads. Note that it's only cosmetic since it doesn't have scale of any kind that shows actual signal strenght.... I don't use it anymore, switched back to windows built-in interface...
If you want to discover AP et al in real time then try NetStumbler0.4.0, it gives you a lot of info and you can use it with GPS (but has problems with recognising encryption type, WPA to be specific), you can't connect to AP through it. And for more advanced network analisys use OmniPeek Personal 4.1, it's only (that i know of, tried many) advanced analisys tool that really works with 3945abg and it has drivers included (they install automatically, and are used only when program is started; when you exit program, "original" drivers are restored). All tools are freeware, there is new version of Omnipeek, but it's not free and v4.1 works just fine. Hope it helps....
EDIT: If you're going to use OmniPeek you must first install Intel drivers for 3945abg v11.5.0.36 or higher, or else it will not work and you'll get message that your card is not supported. Download it from Lenovo site.
