recommend external DVD/CD Burner

#1 Post by Marin85 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 7:52 am

Hi,
I´m looking for an external USB 2.0 DVD/CD Burner that would support dual layer DVDs and up to 16x for DVDs. I need a reliable piece of hardware. Size doesn´t matter much since it´s not meant to be mobile or to travel a lot.

I have a Sony one that is three years old (this one here to be exact http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DRX800UL-Ext ... B00083Y3PC).
Very reliable - never produced a coaster (tested 8x +/-R, 2.4 x +R DL, and 4 x -RW).

Yeah Sony ones are nice because they are re-badged Lite-Ons. These Sonys are usally $70 at Walmart.
A internal Lite-On drive is about $21 shipped from Newegg. It's internal but you can then get an external enclosure for ~$30.

If you want to step it up above typical burners, buy a Pioneer drive. Won't let you down.

@kunfuchopsticks: Can you post some links to such enclosures? Thanks in advance!
