I'm thinking about getting this wireless n card

Thinking about trying it in the T41 or the A31P.
I know i'll may have to do the no-1802 patch,but if that gets me internal "N" wireless,i could live with that.

Anyone use a card like this one?What do you think? try this card or just get the PCMCIA "N" card.
For about 50.00 oe so , i'm almost willing to try it.

Keep in mind that you'll want a 3rd antenna for maximum performance, and even then it would not be as good as a laptop designed for 3 antennas would be. Not that pcmcia would be any better...

I know that sjthinkpader has done it with at least one machine, so you might want to do a search on his posts.

Yes it is, the cards we linked above fit. Look up the "1802 problem" first though, that is an issue for any wireless card that IBM didn't put in that model originally.

Another update...
The card showed up today.
I have installed it in the T-41.
I had the no-1802 hack from the old 2200 intel card so i dident have to do that again.
Put in the card and booted up.
Installed the drivers and way to go.
Works great and very fast.

This T41 is on it's way to being a fully loaded thinkpad.
T-41 with 1.5Gig's ram , new 9 cell bat , internal B/G/N Atheros card , SXGA+ , new P-m 2.1Ghz cpu(intel 765 SL7V3) picking it up tomorow , Thi keyboard , long fan , all the good stuff.....

Just need to replace the 40 gig hard drive and it will be done.....

Update: Dont know if this is a good test or not but...
Befor with this T41 with just the Wi-Fi "B" i went to microsoft site and started to download Age of Empires III Trial Version (over 400megs) . With "B" only i toped out at about 80 to 90Kb/s down.
With Intel 2200B/G same file i got 160 to 180Kb down.
Now with this "N" card i get 800 to 840Kb down.
The numbers will be diffrent from where you live but it just shows the big jump from the 3 cards on my system ,my router,and cable internet.
Thease tests were done all today with in hr's of each.Same router,same T41.Only diffrence is i had to set the "N" WPA-2 key to get the full 300megs for "N".
It's strange to have 3x faster speed going to the router then the desktop wired with Cat5 cable....

Your NIC in your desktop is probably a 10/100, to get the max speed you need a 10/100/1000 (gigabit) NIC card. You may also need a cat 6 cable (probably not for a short run)

It's just an older P-4 3.0 Ghz desktop system.It has onboard 10/100/1000 gigabit card.So does this T41. But the problem is the Dlink wireless router (dir-625) is a wireless B/G and N and only 10/100 .
When i bought the router i never thought about looking for a gigabit one.No big deal,i dont use the desktop very much.
My A31P is the main workhourse....

The only problem is every where is out of stock except really far.

I went to best buy it was 79 for the same unit. But they price match. Went to customer service and looked at circuitcity.com website and they matched that.

So I got a Brandnew N adapter for $35.08 cents with tax.

Not bad. Using Mandriva One Spring 2008. Works great. The card is version A1.
