Choosing an external DVD burner

#1 Post by ulrich.von.lich » Mon Aug 25, 2008 3:19 am

Hello everyone,

I'm purchasing an external DVD burner soon. I prefer the slim version, which is basically a laptop sized drive with a USB enclosure. Because I can save some weight and a power cord.

Here's the question, I've noticed on eBay that those drives are not universal but made for particular branded laptop(s). For example, this LG GSA-T21N is made for Fujitsu laptops only and this Panasonic UJ-875 is made for Apple laptops only.

I don't understand why there should be such restrictions. Is there a way to make them work on ThinkPads?

Does anyone have some experience on external DVD burners and could share them here?

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Best Regards,
Tony

Hi Tony,

I use a Freecom drive which seems to work with all flavours of TPs, admittedly a 5,25", however I do believe they build the Lenovo external mobile USB drive. Have a look at this drive, it should be OK
