3com Xjack 3CRPAG175 giving me BSOD

#1 Post by ChugokuOtaku » Mon Sep 01, 2008 1:12 pm

I ordered a 3CRPAG175 in March from ICTcompany.com, installed in my T22 for my mother to use for web browsing/E-mail/etc. The card worked fine, until a couple weeks ago, when she came back from her vacation. During this time, no one has been using the computer. She booted it up, and had some trouble connecting to wireless, and fiddled around with it, got it to connect. Starting next morning, whenever the Xjack antennae is extended while in Windows, I get a BSOD. So I tried the other PCMCIA slot, same problem, reinstalled drivers, same problem. I thought she must've somehow managed to kill the card. So I took it and installed it in my x31, and it worked fine- but only for a week, before it also started to encounter the very same problem: BSOD when the antennae is out. At that point, I concluded that the card must've gone bad, and ordered a new one from ICT.

So the new card arrived a couple days ago, and I finally got around to installing it. The new card worked fine for the first 30 minutes after installation. So I shut the thing down, and gave it to my mom, and she starts yelling at me within minutes of booting up: surprise! antennae out = BSOD again. Yanked the card out, popped it in my x31, same thing! Both machines are running XP Pro SP3, with ESET's firewall.

I'm wondering if it's also possible that ESET's firewall might be screwing around with it, because months ago, I was installing the firewall on my dad's machine, and he uses an EVDO card. The card was on while I was installing, and it BSOD'd on me. I disconnected the card and reinstalled ESET, and then connected the card back, and everything was fine.

Having gone through all this, I'm starting to question whether or not the first card had actually gone bad... or maybe there's something I need to tweak in my laptops. :(

has anyone with a 3CRPAG175 encountered similar problems?
