Utility to set Thinkpad hardware audio level

Hello Everyone,

I need a program to set the sound level on my X31. The sound levels can be controlled by Windows and by the hardware buttons, and are quite independent by the looks of things. I know how to set the sound level on Windows no problem, but I can't find a program to set the hardware button sound.

Yes, before you ask, I know I could just press the buttons, but the application I am using makes that very hard (the X31 is positioned behind a display on the wall!)

I want to set the h/w sound volume to 100% at startup, and use Windows to control the sound from a remote keyboard. Thinkpads have little programs to control wireless on and off, and to switch displays (to replace FnF5 etc) but I can't find the same for audio.

thanks in advance for any help.

Dave

AFAIK, whatever you set the hardware sound volume to be, that is how it stays until you change it - at least on the older ThinkPads. Rebooting should have no effect. It would seem to me you could just set the hardware volume to maximum and then forget it. Use Windows to control your sound level through the mixer.

Am I missing something here?

yep. all of my thinkpads work that way. they remember the volume level set via the hardware buttons.
