My Thinkpad keyboard is an international version with a printed Euro symbol located on the bottom right of the "5" key. So this key has the 5, % and the Euro symbol.

Does anyone happen to know offhand what key combination is necessary to use it since it is the third function on this key?

I couldn't find mention of it on the Lenovo website. Thanks.

On my UK keyboard the Euro symbol (€) is on the bottom of the 4 key. To get the € you need to press the AltGr key (to the right of the space bar) and then the key with the € sign.

Thank you for that suggestion. That is what I was hoping for. Even though your layout might be different, it should work in a similar way.

But when I hit the AltGr key and then then the key with the Euro symbol, I get a windows sound similar to when you try to close an app but have a menu in that app still open in another window. If I then hit the AltGr key again, and hit the key, I get the "5" and not this secondary symbol key which as in your keyboard, is on the bottom right of the key.

So I can't figure out then if this is a hardware issue or a configuration issue. Aside from this, the keyboard works exactly as it should.

If it is a configuration problem then try reinstalling the driver for the keyboard. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware devices, and double click on Keyboard. You can remove the existing driver and then reinstall it.
If it is a hardware problem and the machine is under warranty then try calling the help desk.

I am guessing you have the US International keyboard. You need to select that keyboard in Vista (or XP).

Yes, I do have the US Inernational keyboard.

However, what I find peculiar is that it is recognized with the default layout of US keyboard. The keyboard control panel did not list any keyboard options. After doing a little digging, I see that in XP this is apparently controlled under Regional and Language options. (Not that obvious that it is here, not under keyboard.)

Then I had to add the US International keybaord option. (Again, it would be more logical if it were recognized within the hardware settings when the keyboard is installed.)

I've also noticed that it needed to be configured under each user account. Again, not very obvious.

Now the AltGr keys works as it should and with it the euro symbol.

I was thinking that this was a new computer for you, so it most likely had Vista on it. Looks like I was wrong on that count.

To be even more specific, the US International keyboard is not recognized unless you look for it here: Regional and Language options --> --> Languages --> Details

and then add US International as a language.

Sorry, "international" is not a language, nor is it clear that a keyboard layout is a "detail''. This is a pretty dumb setting in XP.

Now I know why no one in the US probably uses the euro key...
