the cursor moves to the top of the page and I cant move the cursor downwards,it automatically scrolls back up.Can I reset the internal mouse or is it now broken and I have to attach an external mouse?please help

Are you also getting an 8611 error message when booting the system? If so, then it would appear that the Trackpoint (official name for the built-in mouse) is defective. If you are not getting any boot-time error message, then it is possible that it is working normally. The Trackpoint is supposed to "zero" itself out when left alone for a few seconds. This can occur if you apply constant pressure to the Trackpoint for a long time; in other words, keeping your fingertip resting atop the button without really trying to control it.

There is an undocumented (from IBM anyway) modification that you can do in the 600's BIOS which will disable the Trackpoint. One post detailing the mod is here:

This will of course require that you use an external mouse. The other "fix" is to replace the entire keyboard.

nope,no error message showing.still no joy with the trackpoint

no the external mouse is playing up too,I cant seem to find where it is in the HexEditor that was mentioned,which scetion is it,I looked.I need to turn off the trackpoint.This is annoying,I may explode soon!!!

If the trackpoint continues to drift by itself, it may also affect the cursor when an external mouse is connected. To disable the trackpoint you will need to do the following:

- access the BIOS by pressing the F1 key while powering up
- continue to hold the F1 key until the Easy Setup screen is displayed
- select the Config icon
- within the Config display, press CTRL-D to invoke the hex editor
- using the arrow keys, move the cursor to the third row and first column and confirm that there's an "02" in that location
- type in 01
- save the edit; I think it's the F2 key
- press the escape key to exit the Config menu
- re-boot

I believe these instructions are correct (doing it from memory since I don't have a 600 system with me).

thanks Ray,I did all the above but when I cam to the Hex editor there doesnt appear to be an 02 in the 3rd row,1st column.

no,what you told me first time was correct,there just isnt an 02 in that column which means I am screwed,[censored]!
