spare parts for T30

#1 Post by Alejandro Audisio » Wed Oct 01, 2008 9:45 am

After a lot of thinking & looking around, Ive decided that I will patch up my old T30 and use it for another 12 or so months before trying to buy a refurbished T43p... hence Im now in the market for a few spare parts.

Dont know if its possible to still source these new (straight from the box, etc.), but I basically need a battery and a keyboard.

Any tips on where I can source these...? Again, if possible I would prefer to get parts that are new - dont know if that is realistic or not.

Thanks,
Alejandro

Have you tried getting them from IBM in your country?

Not really... pricing for IBM original stuff down here in Argentina is usually outright crazy. I guess I could ask.. but Im sure they will probably want north of 250 US Dollars for a battery.

That would be no fun...

I'm fairly certain you could find some NOS parts on eBay...that's definitely worth a shot.

Good luck.

Alejandro:

Have you considered posting a "WTB" (Want To Buy) or "LF" (Looking For) advertisement at the Marketplace in this forum? That's surely where I would start looking! Best of all: Very friendly and helpful sellers!! :-)

With reference to System service parts - ThinkPad T30 pointing to Keyboard FRU parts list - ThinkPad T30 a T30 (APPS) keyboard with 08K4699 cost $97.66 (!!!) if purchased through IBM US Parts and Maintenance parts site so I'd say... go elsewhere!! Also, try get a NMB keyboard (08K4670 if "US English), rather than an ALPS.

I'll look around, but I think I have a T30 battery in pretty good shape somewhere around here, but I doubt I have a keyboard though. Send me a PM if you are interested and we'll figure something out for you. I hate to see a forum member stuck for parts just because they are in a foreign country!
