Recommendation for audio work

I'm a fledgling musician and I was wondering what would be a good model to invest in that would be primarily used for audio recording and mixing.

Primarily, it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest (and I couldn't afford it either). Portability is also not a factor to take into consideration and I'll also be investing in a separate peripheral for my recording needs. Neither is battery life a big concern. I'm more concerned over processing power and latency.

The latest models feel like they're over the top, but the general word is that the Core Duos are the way to go as well. Should I be in the market for a T or R model?

Not a direct answer to your question, but it may help you to do a search for 'stereo' or 'audio' in the T6* forum. There was a lot of talk there a few months back about Lenovo limiting what/how you could record on the T61 -and ways around it.

I use an X31 with an external soundcard (M-Audio Firewire). I think a T42 with an external soundcard would be a great budget rig.

Just be aware of the motherboard (GPU) problem, which can make the T42 a lot more expensive.
