Looking at a 12" or smaller to carry around. Older - less than $400

Specifically - the X40, X31, or if I go nuts and buy new, the S10

What's the major difference between the X3x and X4x in terms of upgrades and performance?

X3x is a bit bigger than X4x, but the X3 can take any PATA 2.5" drive whereas the drive selection for X4 is pretty limited. Then there's the X3's better gpu and ram options. Basically the X31/X32 have more performance options, whereas the X40 is smaller and has more battery life.
