Dock II (2877) and Ultrabay 2000

I use a Dock II with my T42, X30 and A21m ThinkPads.
Having a spare disk drive (Toshiba, Lenovo part no.) lying around, I acquired an IBM-branded caddy, attached the disk drive and inserted it into the Ultrabay.
It was then that I discovered that the 'eject' button doesn't work, although it ejected the plastic 'blank' properly.
There seems to be no way of ever getting it out again! Does anyone have any ideas?

Two things:
1. You cannot eject the ultrabay device while a computer is docked and powered on. This is a feature, not a bug.
2. If you cannot eject the ultrabay device even if the computer is powered down or not even attached, the bay device lock is probably enabled. See
here, page 8 on how to access this lock.

Yes, I am aware of this.

I have this document and I'm familiar with the info. on p.8.
By removing the external trim and using a tool devised for the purpose (consisting essentially of two pieces of stiff wire) I have managed to withdraw the caddy, but I'm still puzzled that the 'eject' mechanism seems to serve no useful purpose when this caddy is installed.

can you try with a cd/dvd/floppy device in the bay?
I wonder if the problem could not be linked to the caddy not being an original IBM part but a copy. (only a wild idea)

None available, unfortunately.

Yes, I wondered about that.... The disc drive will fit into the caddy only if the thin metal tray, in which it normally sits, is removed. This could be normal procedure, as it's a snug fit without it.
Leaving aside the 'eject' issue for now, I've found that the boot process is very slow when the disc drive is installed and it reports 'hde: lost interrupt' repeatedly. (O/S is Debian Etch.) Then I discovered that none of my USB ports was working..... Remove the disc drive from the bay and everything reverts to normal.
Any ideas, anyone?

Can you maybe post a set of picture of the caddy + the p/n and fru ?
(Very long shot... a short on some of the connectors between the caddy and the bay OR some very loose contacts between the caddy and the bay OR a bigger problem relative to the whole Dock. Having something to plug in the bay would restrict the options)
