x31 BIOS

I have a couple x31's and am thinking of buying another. The only thing I know about the one I'm considering is that it boots and the BIOS is accessible. The problem is that the BIOS seems to only occupy about half (to two-thirds) of the screen (in the center). From the pictures, the rest of the screen is black. This x31 was being tested with 256MB RAM and no hard drive (I think).

On every other x31 I've used, the BIOS has occupied the whole screen.

Does this indicate a hardware problem, or is it just a normal variation?

Thanks

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

What you are describing sounds like the video system has not been set to the "expansion" mode. This is something that is controlled inside the BIOS setup.

edit: Here's a bad photo from a Palm Zire 71 showing what happens when you turn off the HV Expansion on a 14.1" SXGA+ screen:

Oh, and you have a PM too :) .
