New Battery, Preparation for 1st use? and care instructions

#1 Post by tomstarich » Fri Jun 04, 2004 10:55 pm

My New Li Ion battery came in the mail today.

It was a pricey little beast comming in at $75.00 dollars.

Of course now that I have it I want to take good care of it.

Does it need to be conditioned before use by charging and discharging? Since this is an older thinkpad 760C there is no Battery Maxi-Miser wizzard. Just power settings.

Will it stop charging when it gets FULL?

I noticed a switch on the back of the battery, looks like an on off switch. Are there times when I should be switching the battery off.

The laptop will be used primarly as a plugged in computer but will be used to play mp3's in the car on trips.

Any friendly suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lithium Ionen battery don't have memory effect like NiCDs. So you don't need to charge / discharge the Akku. But remember, this is an akku. A permanent loaded Akku will not have the full capacity after some months.
Thinkpad Akkus in the TP stops the loadingprocedure when the akku is full. There is a buildin electrinic in the akku.
