VGA replasement/Motherboard FRU

#1 Post by qazthinkzaq » Mon Dec 22, 2008 2:54 pm

Hi,
I have T60p - 2613-CTO. I like my ThinkPad very very much. But there is one very annoing think! FAN nois! My idea is to chang the VGA. by now i know that vga is integrated in motherboard so if i change the MB everything will be OK. My MB is with 5250 fireGl wich is very nice but GPU temp=~65-70 degrees when my CPU is ~55 and the fan is ..... .
So my questions are:
How to determine FRU number of my MB?
How to determine the MB FRU number to replaceme with? I think about Integrated video or Ati not FireGl.

I prefere dedicated Ati not FireGl but if Ati will work at ~70 degrees i will chose Intel.
Please share opinion will it help as i think? Ati VGA or integrated video?
P.S. In Hardware Manual is "Structure frame" is it a MB?

There is a tpfancontrol program, to turn down the fan. Also, make sure the ATi PowerPlay feature is working, the should lower the temp a few degrees.

An Intel GPU will of course be alot cooler, but it is also alot slower. I am not sure if this matters to you or not (do you play games?).
A plain ATi Radeon instead of FireGL will make very little difference.

See this site for FRUs:

The motherboards are listed under their GPU, for example I am guessing you have a 41W1407 board.

I'm using bout of them. Fan control helps to manage the problem but not solving it. With Power play i gain 2 degree but there is very annoing flickering when i start movie.
I use it mostly for Photoshop. The reason to buy FireGl is because there wos no choice Wont FlexView - Buy FireGl.
I play only Heroes III when i have a opportunity:)

aaa - Can i post to you photo of my T60 opened to show me where is FRU number located. If I dont bother you :)

I have a strange feeling.
there is place for 3 labels but there is only 2.

11S42W9290ZVF0W27361NL 703
MADE IN CHINA

MAC ADRESS: 00 16 41 ...

And empty place above them.

Is some of those numbers my FRU number?

The empty space above the 11S label is where the FRU label would normally go.

I am not sure how the 11S followed by the 7 digits with one letter applies to the FRU. That type of 7 digit number is similar to a FRU number but googling the number reveals nothing.
