Hello!
My machine is T400.
I have a problem. With some mistakes, i was ruin my paritions. I fixed those, but F11 in the start up was missing. I fixed that with this and i reinstalled rescue and recovery.
But before that crap, when i pressing F11, then was appearing the startup recovery and system recovery etc, similar to vista recovery disk menu. But now i have just restore or backup system and PC doctor.
How i get back with old lenovo boot up recovery?
Then is one question T400 owners, is Lenovo Q partition ntfs or fat32 and how big is that?

Are you asking, "how do I get my PC to boot normally?"

I've reread your post and I think you are asking "I've upgraded to rescue & recovery and would like to restore my predesktop to the older type recovery partition."
I also like the old style partition. I edit the autoexec.bat to dump me into dos and I add all the applications from the ultimate boot CD. I also add Acronis for back-ups.

If this is what you want to do you could unhide the partition from Vista and add whatever you want. The partition comes with dos 8.0 from windows ME.

Yes i probably want to ask that. I try do explain my problem with photos. Before i had recovery menu something like this(this is vista recovery disk menu, but i didnt find a correct one with Lenovo names on it). And now i have that . I cant recover a startup i just can troubleshoot a hardware and restore a backup.

I think I used system restore to roll back the R&R. Then I used partition magic to gain access to the recovery partition. Just don't change the name of the partition the bios looks for a partition named IBM_SERVICE.

Hmm I did that:
Proper MBR.
But this didnt changed nothing. And others things in those page, i didnt find nothing useful. I dont think i had a older rescue and recovery version, because 4.21 was come in 23.07. But my computer was released in october. I just cant understand what i had before. And those informations in those page are old, because i have now two Lenovo partition, Service and Lenovo, and eitherone not hided!

try uninstalling R&R. If that doesn't work do a system restore to a time before the R&R install.

I did that. Before that i didn have an F11 function. I talking about earlier time, when my system crash(I was trying to reduce C partiton with Acronis partition manager). I fixed with vista recovery disk the system and after that, F11 was disappeard. So i use those diskette files to enable F11 but this wasnt the same R&R, what i had before system crash. I tried to say that in my first post!
My partitions:
SERVICEV003
C
Lenovo
My created partiton D
My created partition E.

This is what I would do (NOT ADVISABLE!) Back up the whole hard drive. unhide all hidden partitions (with the bios and software) decide which partition you would like to keep (PreDeskTop Area should be IBM_SERVICE) rename the other (R&R) partition, if you have one. Make sure your Vista partition remains active not hidden and primary. Turn off system restore to the PreDeskTop partition, empty the recycle bin add any dos applications you want in there. Hide the IBM_SERVICE partition ASAP it should be hidden not active and should be primary. Then run the F11 diskette.

I just cant understand what you trying to tell me. I dont have the hidden partitions, and in the bios or somewhere else i cant hide or unhide partitions. But i can do this with acronis software. But which partiton i have to do the backup and why, i didnt understand. For the beginning to the T60 R&R had changed. So there is no hidden partition anymore.

Sorry for confusing you. your problem sounded exactly like a problem I had with a T43, since I thought partitions were part of your original question. well, I hope someone can help you.

Hmm, I would also like to help you but I can't really understand what your problem exactly is. I would have given you more or less the same advice as Tom since I also had a similar problem some time ago. At the moment I am looking for new backup software. I need one that's reliable and can deal with data of about 500GB. I searched the internet for some infos - I found an interesting site here - but can anyone recommend a good backup software to me? Acronis or Mozy seem to be popular.
