Cleaning lcd screen
Hi, is it necessary to remove the battery when cleaning the laptop lcd screen?
Also can I use those bottle solution used for cleaning cd player head on the lcd screen? Will plain water do more harm than good?

Re:
Same here. Well, I also use Windex on it, and it has given very nice results. Nothing seems to have been harmed whatsoever, despite ammonia's (sometimes) bad reputation.killer wrote:I use microfibre cloths and the stuff with which you clean spectacle lenses. Works a treat.

Re: Cleaning lcd screen
No no no no no do NOT use Windex. DO NOT! Ammonia will cause the screen to cloud.
As for eye-glass solution, dollars to dimes its just a water/alcohol mix.

Re: Cleaning lcd screen
Well...I suppose I should avoid it next time. I always used 99% Isopropyl alcohol before, but it seemed to leave streaks behind. Luckily, I have only used Windex once, although it performed better than the alcohol seemed to. I'll try diluting it (alcohol) with distilled water next time.sparta.rising wrote:No no no no no do NOT use Windex. DO NOT! Ammonia will cause the screen to cloud.

Ounce for ounce, saline solution must cost ten times what isopropyl alcohol does. Why not just do it right and save your money?lengendtp wrote: Then can I use those cleaning solution for cleaning contact lens?

The problem is.. I don't know how/where to buy?
Also if can, since it(contact lens cleaning solution) is there.. just ask whether.. can it be use?

Re: Cleaning lcd screen
I think Isopropyl alcohol should be readily available almost anywhere. Just look for the 50% concentration, as the other 50% should be distilled water. Grocery stores & the like should have it with things like nail polish remover & maybe first-aid items. Now, perhaps regulations are so vastly different in Singapore that it is in fact NOT available, but that hopefully is not the case.lengendtp wrote:The problem is.. I don't know how/where to buy?

Re: Cleaning lcd screen
In Europe, any pharmacy should be able to supply you with what you want. This may be true in Singapore as well.

Re: Cleaning lcd screen
I have two 3+ year old T43 Thinkpads with the same configuration.sparta.rising wrote:No no no no no do NOT use Windex. DO NOT! Ammonia will cause the screen to cloud.
One has a screen that has been periodically cleaned with Windex, the other has a screen that has never had Windex used on it.
There is no visible difference between the appearence of the two screens. Niether screen is "cloudy.
Cheers,
