Performing a BIOS Update via Lenovo System Update Question

I usually keep my T61's BIOS settings "lock" option enabled with my Supervisor PW. I also use a separate HD PW.

Should I first temporarily disable these passwords in BIOS before performing a BIOS Update via Lenovo System Update (which automatically reboots my T61)?

Bought a T430 that's still on BIOS v2.61. Latest version is 2.72. I know that large jumps forward in BIOS versions can sometimes result in problems....

I feel silly asking this question, but was curious. Someone said w510 could boot from a usb. If so, could an older os be booted that way...like 98se...
