I recently acquired 6 TP 760 series Laptops. 4 XL's one EL, and one XD. How do I install 98se onto a blank formatted hd? I've tried to start with the 98 boot disk in drive A: then it comes up with "MSCD001" No valid CDROM device driver found. I am new with IBM series.

You should install the CD-Rom drive in the 760, connect the floppy drive externally using the cable then boot with the floppy, select CD Rom support and put the Windows CD in the drive. Don't try to install directly from the CD, it takes a long time and is likely to fail. Instead, create a Win98 folder on the C: drive (after it's Fdisked and Formatted) and copy all the contents of Win98 from the CD into it then run Setup from C:.

If you don't have an external floppy, copy the DOS system files and the CD drivers to the C drive after booting from the floppy. Turn off the computer, put in the CD drive, then boot DOS from the hard drive.

These tips are good. In addition, I would try to enter your BIOS set-up and make sure the CD drive is being recognized, that it tests OK, etc. I think on your machine (not sure), you hold down the F1 key as it's booting, and you will enter the BIOS set-up. It should be fairly clear how to test your CD drive.
