can you recommend a bandwidth monitor?

#1 Post by Paul Unger » Tue Jan 20, 2009 5:27 am

I'm looking for an application to monitor and log bandwidth use. Nothing fancy, except perhaps the ability to exclude specific IP addresses (i.e., internal network traffic; e.g., a network printer). Any recommendations? I tried NET Traffic Meter 2.1.2567, but I can't get it to work (it doesn't record any traffic . . . ). NET Traffic Meter 1.5 records traffic, but can't exclude IP addresses . . . OK, so maybe I am asking for something fancy. :?

Paul, I did a google search of 'bandwidth monitor' and loads of hits appeared. Have you tried this?

@Paul Unger: Off topic, I have just noticed your location. Are you Paul Unger who describes the native languages on the Solomon Islands? (sorry if my question sounds too naive).

Thanks

Marin

EDIT: Sorry, didn´t notice Solomon Islands /Canada  , so I guess you are not the same guy.

Yeah, I did. I tried about five of them, but I didn't want to wade through installing and testing the other 50 on my own if someone else could recommend on that could exclude specific IPs. Thanks again.

Actually, I am (I think?). I've only described one language--Lengo. But I hail from Canada (and sometimes return there) and work in Solomon Islands. What's your interest in Solomon languages? And how'd you find my work on Lengo? Just curious! Feel free to PM me and we can continue the discussion offline. Look forward to it!

Oh, that´s a surprise! I have a few friends linguists, some of them are interested in the idea of the so called "primitive" languages (or if this notion is justified at all etc.). In one of our discussions the name Paul Unger was mentioned together with the Solomon Islands, and then later, maybe just by coincidence, I saw both names here in our forum. That was quite some time ago and I always wanted to ask you about that just out of curiosity, who knows, maybe just by coincidence you might be that guy... Now, when you mention about Lengo, I´m pretty sure it was you :) Otherwise I have nothing special on my mind, my field is actually mathematics, but I find linguistics very interesting and I try to attend that kind of discussions in the very seldom cases when I have time to, I believe both fields have very specific relationship, very fascinating indeed.

Also, thanks for the invitation, I´ll definitely PM you, at least to drink one virtual beer on that occasion :P

Cheers

Marin
