Dear All,
Over the last week, I made a few R&R backups, and I wanted to test each one of them, but have to conclude that not all of them are working. I retried to make the one that was not working all over again and it still does not work ... so I expect to have overlooked something, but what ?
I did a factory reinstall of my system and then simply updated that completely to current state (the machine is a few years old, so there was quite some updating), I then took a R&R on a USB drive of this.
I then continued installation, including paritioning and configuration, and wanted to make another recovery point, so I made a new R&R backup at this point. Now at this point, I was told that when wanting to make the backup to the same USB drive, that I could only backup my C-drive, as that was the only drive I had backed up in my first backup, and I guess that due to incremental backup it is not possible for some reason to add extra partitions (although it seems weird, as to me that would seem like an incremental change). Anyway, I tried and when booting from that USB drive, I can choose and actively put back both of these backups.
Since I considered to have missed out on some partitions, I simply moved these backups to a different folder than the main drive letter of that USB-drive and made a backup of the full system with all partitions that I wanted to backup, also to that USB-drive. And now comes the weird part, if I now boot from this USB-drive, then for some reason it seems to prefer swapping to my recovery partition on the HD. This I can notice by the fact that it seems to start R&R version 2 (which was the one at the time of delivery of my machine) and not version 4, with which the new backup was made. When I choose to restore my system, then can I can select my USB-drive, but not see my backup. I have tried making the backup again, but same problem occurs. I am however quite stunned why this would happen, as with the other backups, and the same USB-device, I did not have that problem. Same HD in the machine everything, and at boot time I select to boot from the USB-drive.
So, is there something with R&R that is not happily working with multiple partition backups ?
Can you only make one backup to a USB-drive, and does R&R keep track of that in one way or the other ? (The reason I ask this is because a few months ago I made a backup to another USB-drive, and when I copied that backup to my current drive, then it would not work either, whereas it worked from the original drive.)
Anyone any ideas on how I can get this to work ?
EDIT: I tried to copy the preboot and minint from a working backup over the one of the none working backup. That lead to a correct start when booting from that USB device, I could also see the backup and put it back, but the restored system did not boot, there were problems with missing windows files.
Many thanks in advance,
Regards,
WM

I remember vaguely that R&R V4 only supports V3 backups.
You need a V3 to restore a V2.
Don't quote me on this...

Re: Rescue and Recovery, not working for multiple partitions
Dear all,
Well, I managed to overcome the version problem, as I manage to restore the system ... well restore. The problem seems as follows, I can make a backup, and I can run through the restoration process.
Though ...
When I check the restored disk, then I only have 1 partition ... instead of the 4 I had backed up, and which the backup and recovery process also seemed to be dealing with. It seems to simply overwrite the data when a new partition is dealt with in the restore process. So I see all data of the latest of the 4 partitions in one huge partition ... .
Has anybody ever managed backing up multiple partitions ?
Regards,
WM

Re: Rescue and Recovery, not working for multiple partitions
Dear all,
Just contacted Lenovo support, and they said that R&R only supports backing up one partition. Don't ask me why you can select multiple then. They referred me to using System Migration Assistant instead for multiple partition backup.
