Refurbished LCD

I was wondering if anyone could provide some advice.

I have a T43 still under warranty until April. Last week the LCD kept on dying, so I brought it in to my local repair shop who replaced the LCD. When got home, I noticed that when the new screen is black and only then, there are numerous spots of white backlight leakage along the bottom and right edges. Otherwise, the screen works well when it's not black, and with no dead pixels. I talked to the tech who said it was a refurbished screen, and all screens requested from IBM will be refurbished because it's an older model. Therefore if I requested another replacement, there's no guarantee that it will be better and there is a risk it could even be worse, including perhaps some dead pixels. Moreover, they can't just try the new replacement and compare with this one because they have to return this one first to get the new one. Frankly, I'm not sure if he was being honest, or was just being lazy. The leakage doesn't bother me a whole lot except when I'm watching movies with dark scenes in it, so I'm thinking about sticking with the screen. My question is, does anyone know how accurate the tech's assertion was? What are the chances that another replacement screen will be worse? Thanks in advance.

I don't have any TPs under warranty, but that "refurb only" sounds like BS.
He probably meant: refurbed by HIM, and poorly so!
Under warranty you should get a NEW LCD.
Ask your old LCD and the money back from your local rip-off artist, and send it in to EazyServe/Lenovo.

As with all parts that Lenovo replaces under warranty, they reserve the right to substitute the LCD with a refurbished one (there was recently a thread here where the question was discussed wrt. a supposedly refurbished motherboard, plus in another thread it was mentioned that a 15" IPS LCD was replaced with a refurbished one under warranty).

A refurbished LCD should not be "bleeding", unless it was done by a non-professional or coming from a non-Lenovo approved outfit.

The business of them having to return the LCD first is BS...plain and simple.

Chances are, you'll get a "serviceable used part" but there should be no bleeding, pressure marks etc. A couple of dead pixels may appear on a new LCD as well, so there's no guarantee against that aspect of the story...

Skip the "local" guy and send the poor thing to depot...
