Question re Battery Gauge usage

The three options on the battery gauge on my TP are to show either a) remaining percentage, b) remaining time when on battery, and c) wattage when on battery. (I have my battery gauge set to show percentage when plugged into AC power and remaining time when on battery.) I don't have an engineering background, but I was trained as an electrician, yet I can't, for the life of me, figure out why anyone would want to show the remaining wattage. Why would someone think in terms of watts when it comes to remaining battery capacity? TIA for your replies.

Just a guess: to follow the power consumption of the ThinkPad, which is probably important to people who have environmental considerations since soon or late one will have to recharge the battery. The faster the battery gets discharged, the more times one has to recharge it from the AC/DC.

Thanks for your thoughts, Marin. I suppose if someone wanted to track how much power a particular application or peripheral uses it could be useful.

Actually, before your thread I have never thought about that some piece of software (and subsequently my use or abuse of it) or being mobile could affect my electricity bill :)

Thanks,
