Should you use Lenovo's AV?
Should you use Lenovo's AV?
Which anti-virus product is packaged in the current line of Thinkpads and is it worth keeping?
Thanks,

The T500 I set up yesterday had McAfee and again, the answer is no.

Re: Should you use Lenovo's AV?
+1 for AVG free 7.5 (it still updates on my machine 2 times a day
) and +1 for NOD32, but the latter one is not free...

Why still at 7.5 when the current version is 8.0?Marin85 wrote:+1 for AVG free 7.5 (it still updates on my machine 2 times a day)

I tried AVG, but it seems to slow my computer down some. I prefer AntiVir.

Re: Should you use Lenovo's AV?
+1 for AntiVir Free...
I used AVG 7.5 (for long time), then v8... AVG is ok, but scan speed is just too slow (and overall performance degradation v8 vs v7.5 is close to 0)...
I switched to Antivir few months back, much better than AVG, overall faster and has better detection capabilities...Only thing that bothers me is update window/advertisement (but hey, it's free)...
If you want to pay for AV software, then my vote goes to NOD32 or Kaspersky...

if you are going to be visiting sites which might be heavily infected then I'd highly recommend Avira Professional.

Re: Should you use Lenovo's AV?
We have recommended AVG at our shop for years and even became a reseller. Lately we are contemplating switching to Avira for our free and paid AV needs. AVG just isn't what it used to be. Times are changing and we have to change with them.
We have used Avira as run from the UBCD4win for years for virus cleanup. It works well enough that way. I am running it on my personal computers to get a good feel for it before recommending it to my customers.

+1 for Eset's NOD32 which I use on my main computer because of its success in detecting/blocking new malware in tests with 6-mo-old definitions.
I hadn't heard of Avira... I will look into that for secondary machines where I'm currently running AVG. That darned thing (AVG free) started using a voice recording to announce when it updated its definitions. Like I care. Just do it.

Re: Should you use Lenovo's AV?
I use Vipre Enterprise. It uses very little resources and has passed every test I threw at it. We also run it at our shop. I replaced our Symantec Corp. With Vipre Enterprise. It manages all of our client machines very very nicely.
There is a home version also with the main difference being that it will get it's updates from the Mothership rather than having them pushed from my server.
During intense scans I can't really feel an slowdown in the system. Sure when it access the HD's it might slow a tiny bit but not like with other products where it drags the system down to un-useable speeds.
I am a reseller if any one is interested.
