Possible causes of white line on right of screen?

hi, there is a white line about 1/4" wide running up and down the right of the screen of this t41.

so i can barely see the x to close a window and the scroll-bar is faint too.

it is there when i am booting up also. any ideas? thanks.

If the line is there all the time, during boot and upon reaching the desktop
then your display has gone bad. Any line of any color means that there is a problem with that line of pixels being turned on, off, or changing colors. If the line is 1/4 inch wide, you have quite a few rows of pixels that have gone bad. There is no fix that I know of when this happens, your only recourse is a new display. Hope it is still under warranty, IBM should replace it for you.

I've got the exact same problem with my 570. HOWEVER, if I gently push on the bottom of the screen casing, the bars go away (I have 2 bars of 1/4" wide).

I already opened the display and tried to fix it by making the metal shell fit tighter around the display itself, hence pushing the flatcables. But it didn't work....

The bars go away most easy when I put my thumbs left + right and make a bending movement. When I release one bar immediately comes back, the other after a second or so.

Somehow I'm convinced that this is fixable, preferably in a DIY manner

I already cleaned and checked all internal wires + connectors. They seem alright. Although the high voltage board for the backlight has a broken metal shield (it cracked where it's folded)

All along the edge is a band with, for lack of a better word, electrical connections that turn the required pixels off and on. Your connection has failed as you can tell, pushing on it will restore the connection but there is no way to make it permanent. I have opened and replace the CCFL on dozens of displays, so trust me when I tell you that there is no way to repair this connection. Plus just the fact of opening the display will render
about 1 in 10 useless. They are very delicate on the inside. It requires a fair amount of patience and you have to know what you can touch and what to leave alone. The band that supplies the current is one of the big no-no's and you try very hard not to disturb it too much. Your best bet is to pick up a used display from eBay. You may be able to pick up an entire used 570 for less then the price of a new display. Good Luck.

Could you please explain how this electrical connection works? I'm interested in knowing how it is possible that the connection fails and why it cannot be restored? (I have a higher degree in Electronics and Informatics)
